Basics of Routine Hygiene

  • Skin

    Skin is an indicator of overall health. Excessive scratching, chewing, and licking can be a sign of underlying health problems such as parasites, infections, allergies, metabolic problems, or stress.

  • Coat

    Mats can be super painful! Not only can skin get pulled up into a mat, which causes pinching and pain, but mats can also suffocate the skin underneath leading to other issues and further discomfort.

  • Ears

    Canine ear infections are most often due to an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast. Infections can be extremely painful and are often preventable.

  • Nails

    Long nails can break which is painful and sometimes results in infection. Long nails can also cause joint stress and can lead to joint pain, arthritis, and even skeletal damage!

  • Teeth

    Most dogs have periodontal disease by age two. In addition to bad breath, painful inflammation, and eventual tooth loss, periodontal disease can lead to serious health issues. But it’s preventable!

  • Glands

    Heinie-dragging is an indicator that a dog’s anal sacs are full which is not only irritating but can lead to infection. Regular expression of the glands can alleviate pressure and help prevent them from getting impacted.
