Hurricane Prep for Your Pet
Timely tips for protecting your beloved furry family during a hurricane…
Make sure you stock up with plenty of pet food ahead of time. Have enough on hand for at least a week.
Fill your bath tub with water. This can be used as drinking water for your pets in the event that there are any issues with water supply.
Double check that your pet’s ID tag is securely attached to their collar.
Place a rescue alert sticker on a window facing the outside of your home so that rescue workers know how many pets you have inside. If you must evacuate with your pets, write evacuated across the sticker.
NEVER leave your pets behind! If it isn’t safe for you, it’s not safe for your pets either.
Find a pet friendly shelter. Plan ahead and research shelters in your area that allow you to bring along your furry family.
Make sure you have a week’s supply of any medications that your pets need. And if they suffer from storm anxiety, consider getting some anti-anxiety meds to help them through the scary weather.
If you are in an evacuation zone, get prepared. Pack up the travel essentials for your pets in advance. One less thing to think about if the situation arises and you have to get outta dodge.
Make sure you have a recent photo of your pet, so in the event that you get separated, you can to make “lost” posters.
